The Bay Area's Original Digital Filmmaking Program (Est. 2002)
SF State Extended Learning's Digital Video Intensive is a full-time 32 CEU (Continuing Education Unit) course.
Immerse yourself! SF State Extended Learning's Digital Video Intensive has been training students from the ground up in the technical, creative and business aspects of filmmaking since 2002. Graduates have gone on to become independent filmmakers, as well as work for leading media outlets such as FOX, E!, CBS, ESPN, Edelman Productions, and PBS.
Learn Digital Motion Picture Production
Learn digital filmmaking without the "fame" frills, in a hands-on, pro-taught environment. You will learn what you need to actually work on a set or in an editing room. Students will learn how to negotiate a union contract and budget a shoot, in addition to expressing their creativity.
The DVI Experience
Digital Video Intensive classes run daily (Monday - Saturday) including exclusively reserved lab time. Hardware tools include Apple computers, HD video cameras, lighting and sound equipment. Software includes Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Final Draft, EP Scheduling and Budgeting, Pro Tools, and DVD Studio Pro.
Prerequisites
Students should have computer experience (Mac preferred). Although DVI graduates leave with an advanced skills in filmmaking, the program is best suited to those with little or no experience.
Dates
The DVI runs twice a year (spring and fall) and is limited to 10 students.
Fall 2012: August 27-December 14, 2012
Spring 2013: February 18-June 7, 2013
Tuition
The tuition for the DVI is $9,995 (US dollars). This includes instructional materials, use of equipment, reserved labs and a FireWire hard drive. Students are responsible for supplying their own blank media (video tape and blank DVD-Rs).
SF State Extended Learning certificate programs also require a $50 non-refundable application fee.
