Hospitality & Tourism Management is now an Open University program. For more information, please see Open University.

During fall and spring, all Open University students must show up to the first class session to see if the instructor will admit them. Open University students have a lower enrollment priority than regular University students. Admission to classes is entirely at the discretion of the instructor. If the instructor can admit you, they will provide you with a permit number, which you can use to enroll online.

Award of the Certificate

Upon completion of the program, the SF State Extended Learning will issue the certificate on behalf of the department of Hospitality & Tourism Management and in the name of San Francisco State University. Students completing the program who do not have baccalaureate degrees are asked to demonstrate their writing ability. Students may complete this requirement by passing the Junior English Proficiency Essay Test (JEPET) or ENG 414 (for those who fail JEPET). Alternately, students may take a Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) course offered by their department. While students currently have two options to complete this requirement (JEPET test or GWAR class), all students taking courses in the fall 2010 or after should take the GWAR course to meet the writing requirement because SF State will stop offering JEPET at that time.
