Course Materials
All courses provide a syllabus handed out on the first evening (unless an instructor has created a website for the course), containing contact information for the instructor, course objectives, the course timeline, a bibliography of reference materials or links pertaining to the course, and a note about grading criteria including what is required to receive credit for the course.
Lecture/demonstration courses may have printed materials unless the course includes Open Lab time, in which case, any digital materials will be provided on CD-ROM. Hands-on courses will provide course material almost always on CD-ROM, with printable material in PDF format. Students are responsible for bringing their own CD-Rs, USB flash drives or external hard drives to class for saving homework, in-class assignments, or works-in-progress.
CEU Credit/Grades
Multimedia Studies and Digital Video Intensive courses carry CEUs (Continuing Education Units), the nationally recognized units of measurement for professional development and training. CEUs may be used when employers, agencies, and other authorities require a specified number of hours of study and where non-academic credit is acceptable. One CEU is equal to 10 hours of instruction. (Example: 2.5 CEUs equals 25 hours of instruction.) CEU courses are graded on a credit/no credit basis and appear on SF State transcripts only when students earn a grade of "Credit". The Multimedia Studies Program can accept academic units from other SF State departments. Please consult with a member of MSP staff to verify acceptance of courses from other SF State departments.
