This course prepares students to perform patient clinical skills in the medical office setting. Students will learn clinical procedures including administering medications, assisting with minor surgery, performing an electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients and maintaining clinical equipment in an ambulatory care setting.
This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider. To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140 hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements.
Upon completion of the training, students will have the necessary skills and certification to gain employment in clinics, physician offices and other outpatient facilities
Note: Students will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

No Class on Tuesday, March 31 and Saturday, April 11
Course includes an optional 160-hour externship at a local healthcare provider. Students must successfully complete the on-site 140 hour classroom requirement to be eligible to participate in the clinical externship rotation.
Please note: the externship is arranged through our partnership and takes place outside of and after the course is over.
Upon successful completion of the course requirements, a certificate of completion is awarded from SF State's College of Extended Learning. With the certificate of completion students would be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.
The national board exam and externship take place outside of and after successful completion of the course requirements.
