The enrollment deadline for Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (GEOG 9003) is Monday, January 18.

This course is an introduction to the concepts and uses of GIS. Lecture topics include history of GIS, GIS data structures and sources of data, GIS tools, vendors and software, applications, and resources. Exercises include spatial data display and query, map generation, and simple spatial analysis using ArcGIS software. Class format is approximately 50% lecture and 50% lab exercise.

Enrolled students are provided access to student licensing for ArcGIS and/or Erdas software, which only work on a Windows operating system. These software programs are NOT compatible with a Mac operating system. For Mac users, review alternative options here: https://gis.sfsu.edu/arcgis-on-a-mac
Optional lab meetings will be held in the evening M-Th.
