Scientific Visualization in GIS

 

 

Instruction Modes:

  • Asynchronous: Online classes are offered over the course of one week. Attendance at optional virtual meetings with the instructor is encouraged but not required.
     
  • Synchronous: Online classes are offered over the course of two days (Friday & Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.). Attendance at virtual meetings with the instructor is required.
     
  • HyFlex: In-person and online classes are offered over the course of two days (Friday & Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.). Students can decide how to participate. Attendance, either online or in person with the instructor, is required.
     
  • In Person: In-person classes are offered over the course of two days (Friday & Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.).

An introduction to the use of GIS in the visualization of map and image-based scientific data sets, and subsequent interpretation. Topics covered include terrain analysis, viewshed analysis, spatial statistical analysis of point sample data, and surface generation from points and contour data sets. ArcGIS 3D Analyst will be used to explore the possibilities of three-dimensional data visualization.
