This survey course traces roots of the popular music industry from pre-World War II era through the 50s and 60s into the present. Growth of the recording industry from technological, social and economic viewpoints, touching on various topics such as the jukebox, the impact of hi-fidelity and stereo, the emergence of rhythm and blues and its transformation into modern rock and roll, the 60s musical revolution, impact of Motown and Hip Hop on the music industry.
