This two-part course series is designed to prepare students for a successful job or internship search and the professional skills needed to excel in this internship or job. Global Business Communication Skills (GBCS) I is 1.2 CEUs and offered in the fall and GBCS II is 1.2 CEUs and offered in the spring. GBCS I is not a pre-requisite of GBCS II.
Individuals considering or actively pursuing an internship, job or career change or individual interested in improving their professional communication skills.

The Global Business Communication Skills I course is designed to help students learn communication skills for success in an ever-changing global business environment. Students advance their written and spoken communication skills while gaining knowledge, skills and experiences to advance their careers. Topics include networking and conducting a job search, professional presentation skills, successful interview strategies and intercultural communication dynamics. The course is also an introduction to marketing research through project-based learning. Students develop and carry out a marketing research plan, analyzing and organizing market data into a presentation. Students enrolling in the GBCS II course will present their marketing project results in the GBCS II course.
Offered in Spring
The Global Business Communication Skills II course is designed to help students learn communication skills for success in an ever-changing global business environment. Students advance their written and spoken communication skills while gaining knowledge, skills and experiences to advance their careers. Topics include networking and conducting a job search, professional presentation skills, successful interview strategies and intercultural communication dynamics. The course is also an introduction to marketing research. Students who’ve completed the GBCS I course present their marketing research results from that course.
Sandra Arriaga, Faculty
Sandra Arriaga is an educator, program manager and communication coach with professional experience across the higher education, technology and publishing industries. She currently works at Stanford University as a Research Development Specialist, and has previously worked in international education programs at San Francisco State University, Hult International Business School and AMIDEAST in Amman, Jordan. Sandra has a Master's in English with a concentration in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), and she has served as an instructor at San Francisco State University since 2010.
