Who Should Apply for Summer Admission

  • Career Changer Track (CCT): Best for applicants who have not yet taken General Chemistry I.
  • Academic Enhancer Track (AET): Open to all applicants.

Are you planning to apply to medical school or another health professional program? 

SFSU’s Pre-Health Professions Post-Baccalaureate program helps you strengthen your academic record and complete prerequisite courses. The program is designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree and want to prepare for U.S. health professional schools.

You’ll work with a pre-health advisor to choose the right courses for your goals, whether that means prerequisites, upper-division electives or both.

Fall Application Period

  • Opens: October 1
  • Deadline: April 15 at 8:59 p.m. PT (11:59 p.m. ET)

Who Should Apply for Fall Admission

  • Career Changer Track (CCT): You must have completed General Chemistry I at the major’s level and one college-level math course. If you have not taken General Chemistry I, consider applying for the summer cycle.
  • Academic Enhancer Track (AET): Open to all applicants.

Pre-Health Professions Post-Baccalaureate Info Session - Aug. 2026

Join us for a presentation and Q&A session about the Pre-Health Professions Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program. We will discuss the benefits of our program, including rigorous coursework, guaranteed access to prerequisites and electives, personalized academic advising and dedicated health professions school application support.

The spring 2027 application opens Aug. 1, 2026 and closes Oct. 1, 2026.

Our Summer 2026 application will close March 1. Join our info session for assistance in completing your application before the deadline.

Learn the ins and outs of the Pre-Health Post-Baccalaureate Certificate application process. We will cover the various components of an application and provide tips for creating your strongest submission. We will also answer any questions you may have. Applicants who have already submitted their application are welcome to join the meeting.

We will include:

  • Coaching on essay prompts
  • Instructions on how to complete the Coursework Spreadsheet
  • Advice on how to work with your letter writers
  • An opportunity to ask questions about the application process

Pre-Health Program Launches Partnership with Samuel Merritt University


San Francisco State University has launched a new partnership between the Pre-Health Professions Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program and Samuel Merritt University. This agreement creates a formal pathway to select graduate health programs.

What This Partnership Offers

If you are an eligible Pre-Health student, you may receive added consideration when applying to participating Samuel Merritt University programs, including:

  • Direct entry for select programs
  • Guaranteed interviews for select programs
  • Priority or additional admissions consideration

Your Samuel Merritt University application fee is waived when you apply through this pathway.

Participating Programs

The partnership includes pathways to the following Samuel Merritt University programs:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Podiatric medicine
  • Physical therapy
  • Physician assistant studies
  • Pre-licensure nursing programs

Who Is Eligible

To participate, you must:

  • Be enrolled in the SFSU Pre-Health Program or have completed it within the last 2 years
  • Remain in good academic standing
  • Complete all required prerequisites
  • Meet all Samuel Merritt University admissions requirements
